Good to know

Questions, answered

How it works, what it costs, what happens to your data, and where a prepare-only tool stops. If something isn’t here, ask — the answer usually ends up on this page.

Getting started

What the first week looks like.

What do I actually have to do each week?
Export a CSV of the week’s transactions from your online banking, upload it, and glance at anything flagged for review. That’s it — about five minutes. Everything else (P&L, GST, tax estimates, spend) recalculates from that one import.
Which banks work?
All of them, in principle. The importer auto-detects the layout of NZ bank exports (ASB, ANZ, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank and others), including files with metadata rows above the header. If it can’t read a format, you map the Date, Amount and Description columns yourself with dropdowns and it imports anyway — no file is rejected outright.
Do you connect to my bank account?
No. There is no bank feed and no aggregator. We never ask for your online banking login, and we hold no connection to your accounts. You export the file; you decide what we see.
What if I’m starting mid-year, or have months of catching up?
Upload as many statement files as you like in one go — the importer handles bulk history the same way it handles a single week. Categorisation runs over everything, and you can set an opening position for the year so the figures line up.
Do I need to be GST-registered?
No. If you’re not registered, the GST screens simply stay empty and the income-tax side works as normal. If you are registered, set your GST number and filing frequency once and returns build themselves each period.

Plans and billing

Prices in NZD per month, excluding GST.

Do I need a card to start?
Yes — you add a card to begin your 14-day free trial. You are not charged today; the trial runs for 14 days.
What happens when the 14-day trial ends?
Your card is billed for the plan you chose and the app keeps working. Nothing to do — it just carries on.
What if I don’t add a card, or a payment fails?
Your account goes read-only. You can still see all your numbers, but you cannot import new transactions, edit or add details, and the AI assistant is turned off, until you add a card or update your payment method in Billing.
Can I switch plans or cancel?
Anytime, from Billing → Manage billing. Switch between Pro and Premium or cancel whenever you like. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.
What’s the difference between Pro and Premium?
Pro ($39/mo) covers the lot: live P&L, GST returns, tax estimates, AI categorisation, reports, reminders and the year-end toolkit. Premium ($59/mo) adds an AI assistant that answers questions about your own numbers, and free read-only access for your accountant.
Is there a contract or a minimum term?
No. Month to month, cancel whenever. Prices are in NZD and exclude GST.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your records stay in your account, and you can export everything to CSV at any time before or after you cancel. If you want the account deleted outright, ask and we’ll do it — see the privacy policy for how retention works alongside IRD’s record-keeping rules.

What it does, and where it stops

The honest boundary of a prepare-only tool.

Does SaaSy Tax file my returns with IRD?
No, and it never will. We prepare the figures and show you exactly how each one is calculated; you file in myIR. That boundary is deliberate — filing is your call and your signature.
Are the numbers tax advice?
No. SaaSy Tax prepares your GST and tax figures as estimates and shows how each is calculated. You file in myIR, and the final call is always yours — check anything important with your accountant.
Who is it built for?
NZ limited companies, sole traders and partnerships — tradies, consultants, cafés, online sellers, contractors. It applies the right rate for your entity, including the 28% company rate, shareholder salary and current account.
Does it handle payroll, PAYE, FBT or dividends?
No. Payroll, PAYE filing, fringe benefit tax, dividends and imputation credits are out of scope, by design. If your business needs those, you’ll want an accountant alongside SaaSy Tax rather than instead of it.
Can it produce my company’s IR4?
No. It prepares the underlying figures and reports that feed an income tax return, and it keeps them current all year, but it does not generate or file an IR4.
What about receipts — do I have to keep the paper?
Snap or upload a receipt and the AI reads the vendor, date and GST, then matches it to the bank line it belongs to. IRD accepts electronic records, so the stored image is your evidence. Keep whatever your accountant asks you to keep.
Can I invoice and quote from it?
Yes. Branded quotes with GST added automatically, converted to an invoice in one click when you win the job, and invoices that handle GST, withholding tax and your bank details. Deposits reconcile back against the invoice they paid.

Tax specifics

Estimates, and we say so — never advice.

How do you work out my tax?
Every figure traces back to a published IRD rule, and each calculation shows its working in the app. The full method, with citations, is on how we calculate.
Does it handle provisional tax?
Yes. Provisional instalments are estimated as you go and shown with their NZ due dates, so the amount to set aside is never a surprise in April.
What about home office, vehicle and phone claims?
They’re apportioned the way IRD expects. You set your home-office area and business-use percentages once during onboarding, and the year-end toolkit applies them without double-counting anything you’ve already claimed.
What’s a “financial year” here?
The year ending 31 March, referred to by the year it ends — FY2027 means the year ending 31 March 2027. If your balance date differs, set it in Settings.
How accurate are the estimates?
They are only as good as what you import and how it’s categorised, which is why anything the AI is unsure about gets flagged for your review rather than quietly guessed. Treat every figure as an estimate for planning, and confirm the final position with your accountant.

Your data and security

Tax records are about as personal as business data gets.

Where is my data stored?
In Supabase (Postgres) hosted in Singapore, encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest with AES-256. Supabase is ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type 2. Hosting is Netlify; payments run through Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 provider, so card numbers never reach us.
Can anyone else see my business?
No. Every table is guarded by row-level security enforced by the database itself, not by application code, so one business cannot read another’s records. The only people who see your data are those you invite.
Does my data train an AI model?
No. Categorisation and the assistant use Anthropic’s API, whose commercial policy is not to train models on customer inputs or outputs. Your transactions are used to answer your questions, and nothing else.
Is SaaSy Tax certified — ISO 27001, SOC 2?
Not yet, and we’d rather say so than imply otherwise. The infrastructure underneath holds those certifications; the company itself does not. What is in place today is listed on the security section of the homepage, and two-factor sign-in is next on the list.
What happens to uploaded bank statements?
The parsed transactions are kept; the raw CSV file itself is deleted automatically after 90 days. Receipts and other uploads stay in private storage that only your business can reach.
Are there backups?
Yes — encrypted backups of the database and your uploaded files are taken regularly and kept off-site, and restores are tested rather than assumed.

Working with your accountant

They can look; they cannot break anything.

Can my accountant just log in and see it?
Yes — invite them by email from Settings → Team access and they get read-only access to your business, free, on the Premium plan. They see current figures whenever they look, so there’s no year-end scramble to send files.
Can they change my numbers?
No. Invited accountants are read-only: they can view everything and edit nothing. You can revoke their access at any time from the same screen.
I don’t have an accountant. Is that a problem?
No — plenty of users file themselves in myIR straight from the prepared figures. That said, for anything unusual (a first company year, a property sale, a restructure) an hour with a chartered accountant is money well spent, and having your records already current makes that hour cheaper.
How do I get my records to them?
Either invite them in, or export the spreadsheet reports — P&L, monthly, weekly and GST returns — as CSV whenever you like.

Support

A solo-founder product with a real person behind it.

How do I get help?
Use the “Report a problem” chip inside the app — it goes straight to the founder, not a ticket queue. Include what you were doing when it happened and it usually gets a same-day reply.
What are the Telegram reminders?
An optional quiet nudge when it’s time to import, and again when a return is due. That nudge is the habit the whole product is built around. Connect it in Settings, or ignore it entirely.
Is there a mobile app?
No app to install — the site works on a phone, which is where most people snap receipts. Add it to your home screen if you want it a tap away.

Still wondering something?
